Generative AI: Teaching students how to use it effectively

The workplace of the very near future will be based on the effective use of generative AI. Participants will learn how to use generative AI to enhance their classes in this session. Special emphasis will be on the effective use of AI to help students with this new work skill.

Tech Tools for Lesson Planning

OTAN has technology tools for lesson planning. The Teaching with Technology tool helps identify lesson plans integrating technology that engage students, enhance their learning, and extend their learning. The OTAN Lesson Plan Builder helps teachers structure the parts of the lesson. At the foundation are the WIPPEA lesson plan model and the Triple E framework. We also discuss the impact of AI on lesson planning and how OTAN tools connect with a teacher's AI work.

Learn how to enhance HS/HSE student outcomes using CK-12's free, adaptive digital resources. Newly added Flexi, the AI tutor, provides students with 24/7 assistance. We will cover CK-12's interactive FlexBooks, which offer real-time feedback and customizable learning experiences. The resources integrate with your LMS. CK-12’s free platform allows you to adapt their resources or create your own including making your own worksheets interactive! Also includes ABE, ESL and CTE interactive resources.

Tech Tools for Formative Assessment

We look at some formative assessment tools that participants can use during class to help determine where students are and how to help learners as they work with lesson materials. We also consider using AI tools to create formative assessments. Formative assessment tools include poll and survey tools, tools to present and assess simultaneously, classic tools like Kahoot and Quizlet, and exit tickets. Attendees will practice and understand how to use these tools in the classroom.

The struggle is real! Student retention is one of the most critical challenges in adult education. When attendance is down, student progress slows, and educator frustration grows. In this session, we will explore the problem but, more importantly, seek practical solutions. Utilizing the innovative research and hands-on experimentation of adult educators across the country, teachers and administrators will gain applicable learning strategies and engagement activities to keep students coming back.
