Generative AI: Teaching students how to use it effectively

The workplace of the very near future will be based on the effective use of generative AI. Participants will learn how to use generative AI to enhance their classes in this session. Special emphasis will be on the effective use of AI to help students with this new work skill.

(IN-PERSON Only) Data & Accountability: A Hands-on Approach

In this session, the presenters will demonstrate how learner results and services received move from an update record to the CAEP Summary Report. During this hands-on portion of the session, participants will work in groups and reference scenarios to complete a student update record, utilize resources such as the Data Dictionary, and follow the student’s data across a CAEP Summary Report.

Yield better Employment and Earnings Survey Responses

Participants will learn various strategies used in the Salinas Valley Adult Education Consortium, from using social media, to creating a short video to share with students receiving the survey, this session will highlight strategies to yield higher E&E survey response rates. Participants will also be encouraged to share their ideas so we can all learn from each other's best practice up and down the State of California.

Review example of how to analyze data and present it in a user-friendly manner. Discover the key elements of effective surveys and focus groups with examples from consortium needs assessments.

Tech Tools for Lesson Planning

OTAN has technology tools for lesson planning. The Teaching with Technology tool helps identify lesson plans integrating technology that engage students, enhance their learning, and extend their learning. The OTAN Lesson Plan Builder helps teachers structure the parts of the lesson. At the foundation are the WIPPEA lesson plan model and the Triple E framework. We also discuss the impact of AI on lesson planning and how OTAN tools connect with a teacher's AI work.

Tech Tools for Formative Assessment

We look at some formative assessment tools that participants can use during class to help determine where students are and how to help learners as they work with lesson materials. We also consider using AI tools to create formative assessments. Formative assessment tools include poll and survey tools, tools to present and assess simultaneously, classic tools like Kahoot and Quizlet, and exit tickets. Attendees will practice and understand how to use these tools in the classroom.

Victor Valley College is growing in admissions and our classes are offered at three different locations. Our counselors are also located on the opposite side of campus. Because of our wide reach, we sometimes have a challenge knowing the phase in which the student may be in. Also, the ESL CTE program is getting developed.
