Using an ESL App to Drive CASAS Growth and Expand Access

See how ESL instructors are blending the Learning Upgrade app into their classes to achieve rapid growth in reading, writing, and math. Learn how the Learning Circles model using WhatsApp groups can expand access to unserved adults. Cross-Agency ESL Professional Learning Community

The Education to Career Network of North San Diego County (ETCN) agencies of Escondido and Poway Adult Schools took on a yearlong ESL PLC project aligning the curriculum for EL Civic Objective 28 titled Assessing Health Care, that engaged all ESL levels and 15 teachers. Come hear about the project, the process, and the outcomes of this joint PLC. It was so successful that we have even bigger plans for this year!

From GED to PhD: How SEL Can Change a Life Path

The workshop will cover the fundamentals of social-emotional learning skills in the adult classroom. The academic experience will be examined through a blend of research-supported principles from the Internal Family Systems therapeutic model (IFS), trauma-informed adragogy based on the Adverse Childhood Experiences project (ACEs), needs-based responsiveness from Maslow's Hierarchy of needs.

USA Learns Updated Citizenship Course Plus More!

Take a tour of the updated USA Learns Citizenship course (usalearns.org), which was developed by the Sacramento County Office of Education, and includes hundreds of multimedia elements that teach the English skills and information needed for your learners to pass ALL parts of the naturalization interview. Also, learn to easily create your own courses based on USA Learns content. Working with a grant from the USCIS, this citizenship course has been redeveloped to support new curriculum.

We implemented HyFlex across the department in order to meet students’ needs.
