Case Management: Student-Centered Approaches and Facilitated Problem Solving

Successful support for adult learners couples workforce training with intensive case management and coaching. Led by Coast Community College District a regional project recruited twenty counselors to develop robust case management strategies to benefit adult learners. Hope Builders, an Orange County community-based organization facilitated a workshop and follow up coaching sessions. Counselors documented implementation strategies, which were disseminated regionally to scale up best practices.

ENGAGE, ENHANCE, and EXTEND the Learning with the Triple E Framework!

In this session, we will look at technology integration and some simple ways to increase student involvement and learning with Liz Kolb’s Triple E Framework. Participants will learn how they can easily add these activities to their current lesson plans. We will stress the importance of focusing on the learning goals first and the technology second. We will share a lesson plan and then show how we can add activities to ENGAGE, ENHANCE, and EXTEND the learning.

Applying the theoretical framework of culturally relevant pedagogy (CRP) to the adult education classroom

This workshop will explore the applicability of Dr. Gloria Ladson-Billings’ research findings to the adult education classroom. Dr. Ladson-Billings coined the term Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CRP) and defined it as “pedagogy that empowers students intellectually, socially, emotionally, and politically by using cultural referents to impart knowledge, skills, and attitudes.” The primary components of CRP can be coupled with vital andragogical instructional techniques to promote adult learning.
