“12 hours of instruction” has been a requirement in both CAEP and federal reporting -- and is also an important milestone for student persistence. This workshop addresses how the 12 hours requirement affects your agency’s data, and strategies for engaging students during those first 12 hours.

North Orange Continuing Education's (NOCE) Research team explores time to completion for noncredit programs. They will share their methodology and preliminary findings on an exploration of time to completion for noncredit high school diplomas and certificates. Participants will learn about the unique challenges of noncredit pathways and their impact on time to completion including topics such as course repeatability and the open entry/open exit nature of noncredit courses.

We will review strategies and the model that helped our program increase our paired scores to become top 3 in our region. The presentation will speak about strategies used in the classroom, clerical, administrators and the whole team at SAS to encourage students to persist and for students to consider the CASAS assessment an ally. We will also discuss the use of CASAS and data to make data-based lessons and decisions.
